Creative Arts In the Spotlight - Act 2, showcased the many talents of Creative Arts students from Years 6 to 12, from both the classroom and beyond. The evening was a resounding success, based on the excited energy of audience members and performers alike. There were many highlights and the packed auditorium is testament to the interest that has grown over the past three years. It is always delightful to also welcome back so many past students who attended the evening.
The art exhibition in the Gallery and foyer looked fantastic with a constant stream of viewers moving through the spaces. Many audience members now know to arrive a bit earlier to allow time to view both spaces, before the show.
Performance highlights included the loud cheers for the Boy's Musical Theatre Troupe, who opened the show with their energetic routine, 'Officer Krupke'. This group continues to go from strength to strength. Senior students Jordana Wenke and Abbey Endres were two standouts on the evening, having directed the Years 7 and 8 Drama students in a mini-production of 'Alice in Wonderland' which proved to be another crowd favourite. The girls, both Senior Drama students, also delivered heartfelt monologues before leading the Girl's Musical Theatre Troupe with the finale, 'Addams family'. The audience sat in anticipation of a great closing number, and they were not disappointed!
Other highlights included, the College Dance Troupe's performance of a beautiful and emotive routine 'Saturn' from the perspective of Galileo’s children. The five student films entertained and engaged the audience with a variety of genres and narratives, demonstrating the excellent skills and experience they have each developed in the Film, TV and New Media classroom.
The 16 cast members of Years 8 to 12 Drama students, performed excerpts from 'Ivy Shambitt and the Sound Machine'. A challenging short play featuring a chorus of narrators and colourful characters, students performed the magical work, simultaneously entertaining and challenging the audience with its message. For some audience members who may have experienced the challenges of moving to a new country, the Year 10 Drama student's performance of excerpts from 'Scattered Lives', resonated deeply. Students are to be commended on their sincere and thoughtful performances depicting these verbatim stories.
The evening was closed with the handing over of the Creative Arts Captaincy to incoming Captains, Ava Killian and Ashley Meakins, who took this opportunity to thank and farewell the Creative Arts Classes of 2022. A memorable evening for all who attended.
