On Thursday 1 August, we celebrated our amazing Creative Arts Year 12 student work with the first Art Exhibition in the Innovation Hub and Drama performances in the Kleinschmidt Centre!
These works represent 35% of the students result for their ATAR Visual Art and Drama subjects, and were truly remarkable. The art exhibition was attended by an appreciative group of parents, staff and students who enjoyed the intimate space and refreshments generously catered by Redeemer's Parents & Friends group.
Student artwork was accompanied by their artist statements, demonstrating their intent and process in the course of artmaking. We celebrated the Year 12 Visual Art final IA3 Body of Work submissions with a special Senior Exhibition to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and amazing, creative talents of the 2024 cohort.
Audience members were then ushered to the Kleinschmidt centre to witness the three very different interpretations of the Carlo Goldoni’s classic Italian play, Servant of Two Masters. The first performance utilised the convention of intertextuality and enhanced the comedy by integrating James Bond, Pink Panther and Get Smart references throughout. The second performance, set in the corporate world, exploited technology to allow for multiple roles to be played out on screen, while the third performance employed the structure and aesthetics of Mario Kart World to transform the classic play. All three performances were creative, entertaining and clever in manipulating conventions and re-contextualising the play to engage the audience.
The final performance of the evening was the excerpt from Flowers in Antarctic. Drama students from Years 9 – 12 presented a highly visual and physical interpretation of a section of the play, which they had earlier presented at the Bille Brown Studio as part of Queensland Theatre’s Scene Project.
Well done to all of our fantastic Creative Arts Year 12 students!
