Recently our Year 6 students had the opportunity to go on the highly anticipated Canberra Tour from 1-4 August. It was an incredible time of growth and new experiences.
Student Reflections
"The national art gallery was the highlight of the Canberra Tour for me. Our tour guide was nice and funny, and I had a great time there. We saw the Aboriginal art collection, and it was really fascinating to see what other cultures saw Christianity as. My tour group saw a painting of the day when Jesus died on the cross to save us. Our tour guide also showed us the painting ‘Blue Poles’ by a famous artist called Jackson Pollock. Overall, I think the tour was a great experience, and I would love to go there again."

"On the second day of tour, 2 August, 2022, we went to the Anzac Parade and we learnt about one of the famous ANZACs that gave their lives to help bring this world into peace. One of them was Harry Thorpe. He achieved a great achievement that not everyone can achieve. He helped the ANZACs win a battle against Germany. Harry Thorpe charged in and saved not only the ANZACs, but Australia and New Zealand. The Government later gave him a Military Medal, the best medal any soldier can ever have. I think the ANZAC Parade (War Memorial) is a very important place for those veterans and families to remember their family and friends."

"On Wednesday I was pumped to go to the parliament house because many famous people like Anthony Albanese and many other politicians have been there. So many rules have been made here and this is a place where history is made. We had an awesome tour guide that was helpful. He showed us everything and told us everything and it was such a fantastic place to visit. We saw the room of the senate as well as the room of the house of representatives also known as the red and green room. In the house of representative’s room, we saw Mr. Albanese and Scott Morrison in the green room doing a division. This part of the Canberra tour was the absolute best part yet! Canberra is an excellent place to visit."

"I personally really enjoyed the whole Canberra trip. I thought the places we went to were fun, interactive and taught us a lot more about Canberra. My favourite places we went to were Questacon, the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport), parliament house and a lot of other places. Something I learnt was how the voting system worked and who designed Canberra. Overall, I loved the experience of going to Canberra without our parents for a few nights and all the things we saw and went to on the tour."

"After my first experience in Canberra (being somewhere else in Australia), I had an enjoyable time. I really enjoyed Canberra as it was very different compared to Brisbane. We went to many extraordinary places such as Parliament House (Got to see Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese!!!), The War Memorial, The National Art Gallery, CSIRO, Questacon, Sportex and many more places. It was also challenging to be independent in such a place far from home, missing my parents' guidance. I had to become a mature and independent kid for 4 days straight. I hope that people can also see that it is very important to rely on yourself, not others. But overall, I liked Canberra a lot and I will always remember it in my junior school life. See you next time Canberra."

"Canberra was fun, and I enjoyed my time there. At first, I was nervous to leave the comforts of my own home, and knowing where I was, but I decided to be brave. It was pretty cold, but I was prepared. Some of my favourite places were Parliament House, the Mint, Questacon the War Memorial and the National Capital Exhibition. I loved learning all about Canberra and had the time of my life there! I even saw the Prime Minister leaving the House of Representatives chamber after a session. I am blessed to have haven this opportunity and am thankful for all the teachers who planned all of this for months, just so we could enjoy ourselves."
