Throughout Term 1, Redeemer's Year 6 students were immersed in a Project-Based Learning (PBL) task about travel in Queensland. After initiating a discussion via Zoom with Tina from the local Hello-World Travel Agency, the students took on board what she told them about the industry needed help and they showed a distinct mindset adjustment.
The students were given this driving question to start their inquiry.
How can we assist the tourism industry by promoting Queensland to holiday-makers in our local community?
Tourism Queensland needs your help, students! Many local and interstate residents will be looking for holidays closer to home now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have the opportunity to capitalise on this and to promote some different regions within the Sunshine State. During our Zoom meeting with our travel expert, we learned that travel agents can provide value to their customers in terms of price, convenience and expertise. We are going to use this opportunity to help others in our community understand this.
The students inquired into what needs to go into a travel brochure, what features people are looking for and where people can go in Queensland. The students held a travel expo for the other classes and teachers to showcase their learning. It was a wonderful experience.
